For those interested, I have posted the syllabi for my two courses:
- FYSM 1502 B Topics in Legal Studies: Animals, The Environment and the Law [pdf]
- FYSM 1502 P Topics in Legal Studies: State, Law and Violence [pdf]
Both courses are first year seminars, meaning that enrollment is capped at thirty students in the B section and twenty-five in the P section. Not exactly a seminar by most definitions, but much better than a lecture course. (Not to complain about how many students I had in previous years, which was only about a hundred per semester.)

Impressive. You expect your students to do far more reading than I require of my students.
I hope they live up to my expectations. Being the first time teaching this course, I’d rather put more on the list to see what works with them and cut it down later.
Outstanding syllabus. Would love to take the course. One recommendation if you are inclined to make any changes whatsoever: Robert Cover’s “The Supreme Court, 1982 Term – Foreword: Nomos and Narrative” from the Harvard Law Review (full text: http://www.bepress.com/ils/cover/ – scroll about 2/3 of the way down the page) is directly applicable and an article a greater than which cannot be written. It would go well with the Sovereignty and Police (the section title could be changed to Sovereignty, Law, and Police). It is, however, 65 pages long. And well worth every sentence.
