Supernatural

I am hesitant to write about television when I should either be writing lectures or writing my dissertation, but I’ll justify this one on the basis of a footnote mentioning Supernatural in my dissertation:

While the premise of the fourth season appears to be that Dean is resurrected Jesus-style by a warrior-angel sent by “the Lord” (we dare not say God, of course) and Sam is increasingly giving in to what appears to be his true nature as a mixed-blood half-demon (i.e., the consequence of both Azazel’s bloodletting when Sam was an infant and Dean’s deal with Lilith to bring Sam back from the dead) thus leading to the only possible conclusion to the season (and possibly the series): Dean, as an agent of God, must fight his brother Sam, as an agent of the Devil. Given that the series is premised upon the fact of evil and the possibility of good, the only result of this fight is that they must kill one another. This is all good – no problem with that. But, note to J-Pad: those muscles just look ridiculous and so does your fake tan. You look like the unholy spawn of Christian Kane and a Ninja Turtle!

LOL, that’s just too funny about the J-Pad.

While it does seem to be brother against brother, I’m hoping that the boys will end up actually finally coming back together and fighting the final battle together.

i am grateful and glad to have happenstanced myself upon this nlog to find you writing not only of “critical animal studies” but then BStar AND Supernatural. i am currently struggling with my dissertation proposal but it is covering 4 shows, one of which is indeed SNTL. the turn towards “the lord” this season thre me for a loop, since it was always a gaping omission, and the stand-alone eps are a bit too much, but the just-downloaded “after school special” was, imo, quite nice. they sure are doing a lot of time travel this season. my main interest with the show is its “spectrality”… spectral subjects, trauma-as-haunting, and the space-between material and immaterial. tv as telepathy and the lot in terms of psychoanalysis and derrida, etc….. love to read more of your thoughts….
