CALL FOR PAPERS
Crime, Law and Regulation: An Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference
October 25-26, 2007, University of Toronto
The Centre of Criminology Graduate Student Association invites all graduate students working on criminological, sociological, socio-legal and/or other research to participate in an upcoming conference entitled ‘Crime, Law and Regulation’. We welcome papers that explore this theme from a variety of disciplinary, methodological and conceptual perspectives in contemporary and historical contexts. Proposals may address a wide range of topics exploring the causes, effects, and constructions of crime, criminality, law, and legal processes.
The intent of the graduate conference is to provide an opportunity for students working on topics related to crime, law and/or regulation to share their work and to learn from each other as we conduct original research from within our various disciplines and fields of inquiry. By providing a welcoming environment for the discussion of scholarship that takes a broad view of the role of law, regulation, crime and criminalization in society, this conference aims to advance theorizing and empirical work in these areas.
In addition to offering a forum to present work, the conference will also provide graduate students with the opportunity to consult with Centre of Criminology faculty experts in a variety of fields, including violence, youth justice, policing and socio-legal studies. Faculty members will lead a series of workshops on theory and method, during which they will describe their own experiences doing research and how they brought their ideas to fruition. Students are encouraged to participate and to discuss their own work during these sessions.
Submissions are due by June 30, 2007. Please include the title of your paper, your name, the name of your department and institution, the name of your program, degree, year of study, your email address and telephone number. Submissions must also include a 250-word abstract outlining what your paper is about, the conceptual framework and methodology if applicable. Please send, fax or e-mail submissions to:
