And, so, it begins…

The newspaper formerly known as “The Daily Tubby” — in reference to its founders generous girth (the only thing generous about him, by the way) — has started what will surely become a two-week long sport in the mainstream Canadian media as the Congress of the Federation of the Social Sciences and Humanities gets underway.  Normally no one notices this event; that’s what you get for holding it in Halifax or Winnipeg or London or, as with next year, in Saskatoon.  But this year the people who determine policy in the social sciences and humanities in Canada decided it was time to bring the Congress to the purported center of the universe, Toronto.  True Torontonians, of course, will point out that York University is in North York and only in Toronto proper by less than a kilometer… but that is beside the point.

No mention of pirates, yet.  More as Google News Alerts brings them to my attention.
