Is This “Parallax”?

Many have commented on how sloppy and lazy Slavoj Zizek has become. His latest book, his self described magnum opus, has received much criticism on this account. Indeed, the dustjacket brags, “This is Zizek at the height of his powers, both as a writer and a thinker.” Not sure if anyone has noticed the following bit.

The first paragraph — in its entirety — reads as follows: “Two remarkable stories were reported in the media in 2003″. The next two paragraphs retell these stories.  The footnote to the first story reads as follows: “See Giles Tremelett, ‘Anarchists and the Fine Art of Torture,’ The Guardian, January 27, 2003.” And the footnote to the second story reads as follows: “See Stuart Jeffries, ‘Did Stalin’s Killers Liquidate Walter Benjamin?,’ The Observer, July 8, 2001.” Astute readers will note that only one of the stories was reported in 2003.

Oh my!
