Yes, she was home, but because she knew I was outside getting wood that I’d hear the knocking on the door or the person at the front would realize I was out back and thus the situation would resolve itself. (She was napping — or tying to — at the time.) Eventually it became apparent that the idiot at the door wasn’t going away and I wasn’t doing anything about it. Mostly because I was, in fact, the idiot in question!

There was also a time earlier this year when I locked myself out and managed to make a tower out of lawn furniture up to my open first floor window.

I have done this twice this year. Fortunately I live in Sydney, so was in no danger of exposure. The first time I had my uni keycard so walked to uni and hid out; the second time I had to go hang out at a nearby friend’s house for a while. I am curious as to what you did – presumably your partner was home or something?

Yes, but was he stupid enough to do it twice in one night? I likely could have made it in through the basement. That’s another reason why I’m dumb: that never occurred to me!

My dad did that to himself once but fortunately the neighbour was home and they broke into the house via the basement window (ie, no one else was home).
